An extremely high-quality stain designed specifically to penetrate and bond to the chemically-treated fibers of pressure treated lumber. The high-solids content (resins & pigments) of Messmers stains produce richer, longer-lasting results.
Messmers UV Plus for Pressure Treated Wood can also reduce the health heath risks of older CCA pressure treated lumber. CCA was banned from residential use recently because it often leaches chemicals like arsenic, chromate and copper that can be harmful to humans, especially children. The majority of decks around today were built before the recent ban, and therefore are made from potentially-harmful CCA.
This stain will last anywhere from 2-3 years on horizontal high-traffic decks to 3-4 years on rough vertical surfaces. Recoating in simple - no scraping is necessary and only 1 coat is required (multiple coats are not recommended).
One gallon will cover approximately 150 square feet of wood surface. We hold ready-to-ship stock of every tint that Messmer's carries. All tints except Natural (which is just a little darker/browner than cedar) are shown below. For those looking to match the colour of stained ipe "Dark Walnut" is an excellent choice.
